We, at North West RGT, take the care of all our greyhounds very seriously. One aspect of care we are
passionate about is the food we feed them. We wanted a natural diet with quality ingredients which would
provide the dogs with great nutrition which would support their whole body systems. This, we know, would
help prevent conditions that maybe worsened by poor quality food and the fact that they are being
kennelled. So many foods that we feed our animals are full of sugar, salt and additives. Feeding any dog,
especially ones in kennels who are already stressed and anxious, sugar, salt and preservatives does nothing
to help them feel calm and relaxed. These ingredients have the same effects on the dogs as they do on our
children - hyperactivity!!! Have a look at the back of any dog food packet you find in the stores and see
what ingredients are in the food. The first ingredient on any list means that this will be the main bulk of
the food followed, in descending order, by the rest. Dogs need a well balanced diet full of nutrients rather
than just cereals that will make them feel full but have little nutritional value. Take care not to buy foods
that have cereal as their main ingredient and the essential nutrients right at the bottom of the list!! Have

It was by chance that we stumbled across 'The All Natural Pet Food Company' at Port Sunlight Village
Fair and we knew we had found something very special. They specialise in 100% natural foods and care
passionately about animal nutrition and their welfare. The company is run by Jayne who is an experienced
qualified veterinary nurse of 14 years!!
So this journey finally led us to a brand called CSJ who pride themselves on producing excellent quality
food that is British made and contains no artificial preservatives of additives. The meat they use is human
grade meat so only the best is put into their products. As they do not have huge advertising costs and
overheads the price is very affordable too. A huge bonus in itself!!!! CSJ food only contains the following
ingredients with beef and lamb at the top of the list: Beef and Lamb Meal, Wheat, Bread, Chicken Fat,
Maize, Chicken Liver, Unmolassed Beet Pulp, Green Leaf Vegetable, Full Fat Linseed, EC permitted natural
anti-oxidants, Mixed Tocopherols, Vitamin C and Rosemary Extract.
The more we learnt about how important it was to feed all dogs a healthy diet we realised that our rescue
greyhounds needed as much nutritional support as we could possibly give them as the kennel environment
plus their past history and living conditions may not have been the best they could have been. We also
choose to supplement their diets with a herbal remedy to support this whole systems to help them gain and
maintain their weight. Our dogs often come into our kennels undernourished and in a desperate need of
care. We feel feeding them great food is one of the fundamental aspects of care we can give the dogs to
help build their strength and well being so they can flourish into happy healthy hounds!
